MUPPET SHOW, THE {ETHEL MERMAN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs featuring Jim Henson's Muppets, and hosted by the group's genial emerald ringleader, Kermit the Frog. This program features guest Ethel Merman and includes the following highlights: two Muppets resembling Slinkys battle for center stage while dancing to the song "Java"; Merman and the Muppets perform a medley of Broadway show tunes, including "You're the Top" and "Friendship"; Miss Piggy and Merman compete to see who can sing the loudest note; Fozzie Bear's agent, Irving Bizarre, attempts in vain to negotiate with Kermit over Fozzie's contract; and, for the finale, the full company performs "There's No Business Like Show Business." Also included is a segment that showcases the work of Australian shadow puppeteer Richard Bradshaw. Commercials deleted. (This syndicated program aired on WCBS-TV, New York, on February 21, 1977.)
