Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. This program presents four filmmakers' unique portraits of American society. In the surreal tribute to the beat generation "This Ain't Bebop," a man obsessed with his lost youth reflects on images of his past, evoking the art of poet Allen Ginsberg, author Jack Kerouac, and painter Jackson Pollack. In the black and white film "Tribe," people enact the secular and religious rituals that have influenced their lives. The documentary short "Reflections of a Native Son" examines the lifestyle of a fifteen-year-old South Bronx resident, Raymond, through interviews with members of his community, who share their views of Raymond and provide insight into their own lives as well. And, in the documentary short "Get Your Kicks on Route 66," drivers along Route 66 share their memories of this famous American highway. The camera explores the route as Depeche Mode performs "Behind the Wheel" and "Route 66." The film concludes with composer Bobby Troupe performing his song, "Route 66."
