Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. This historical recreation chronicles the events in the life of lawyer Clarence Darrow, who played a key role in a series of landmark cases concerning civil liberties, labor law, and freedom of speech. The program features the events leading to the imprisonment of union organizer Eugene V. Debs and his subsequent appeal, as well as the notorious trial of Leopold and Loeb, in which Darrow uses the insanity defense to save his clients from death row. In addition to his public life and his controversial career, the program also depicts aspects of Darrow's personal life, including his two marriages, and the moral and personal conflicts with which he grappled. Includes a promo for "American Playhouse."
