AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: THE WASH (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. In this adaptation of Philip Kan Gotanda's stage play, a Japanese-American family must come to grips with a serious break in tradition when Masi Matsumoto decides to leave her selfish husband, Nobu, after 45 years of marriage. Nobu is shocked and outraged over her decision, but is appeased when Masi agrees to continue doing his wash, as is her traditional duty. When Masi begins a relationship with Sadao, an understanding widower, her entire family is forced to adjust to her life-reaffirming decision.
