JIM HENSON'S "MUPPET BABIES": "MUPPET BABIES--THE NEXT GENERATION" AND "MUPPET BABY BOOM" (TV)

Summary

One in this series of animated children's programs featuring the Muppet Babies, characters based on Jim Henson's Muppets. In the first portion, "Muppet Babies--The Next Generation," the Muppet Babies fantasize about what the future might be like as they watch science fiction films -- "Return of the Jedi" and "The Empire Strikes Back," among others -- and use their imaginations to become characters from the films. "Fozzwalker" (Fozzie) and "Gonzolo" (Gonzo) travel throughout the universe in their spacecraft, while Piggy, Kermit, and some of the others become characters from "The Jetsons" cartoon. Rowlf is beamed aboard the Starship Boobie Prize where he meets his future grandson, who sings a song about the importance of preserving the environment for generations to come. When the ship's transporter malfunctions, the characters from the various scenarios converge, and Kermit appears simultaneously as Capt. Kirkmit, Skyhopper, and "George Jetson." In the second portion, "Muppet Baby Boom," the Muppet Babies prepare to care for a real baby after Nanny promises a neighbor that they will look after her baby for a week. "Dr." Gonzo lectures the others about baby care; Fozzie explains that babies come from the Stork Exchange, and he and Rowlf create chaos when they try to help the storks on their appointed rounds; Piggy and Skeeter compete in the "Wide World of Baby Olympics" to determine which of them knows more about caring for a baby; and Animal demonstrates how large everything looks from a baby's point of view. When their guest finally arrives, however, the Muppet Babies are surprised to discover that their preparations were unnecessary. Commercials deleted.
