AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: FOOL'S FIRE (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. Based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, this program is a stylized fantasy performed by a combination of actors and puppets. A dwarf is captured and forced to be the jester in a dismal kingdom for a gluttonous king, who names him Hopfrog and laughs at his humiliation. Into this dark world arrives a gift intended for the king: a beautiful, exotic, female dwarf who is dressed as a nightingale and locked in a cage. When Hopfrog witnesses the king mistreating her, he plans one final joke on the king and his subjects, and he attempts to save himself and his new love from their persecution.
