Summary
One in this science fiction/fantasy anthology series hosted by Rod Serling. In this episode, which takes place in a future society where books are banned, librarian Romney Wordsworth faces execution because the State considers him "obsolete." Wordsworth is brought before the State's Chancellor and a jury, where he defends his right to read and think as he chooses. The Chancellor denounces Wordsworth as a useless nuisance, and the jury finds him guilty of obsolescence. Wordsworth is given forty-eight hours to live and the right to select the method and precise time of his execution. Wordworth accepts his sentence, but has some unusual last requests, and a surprise in store for the Chancellor. Commercials deleted.
