Continued from T:24965. Part two of two. One in this series on the performing arts. In this live broadcast from the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, conductor Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic are joined by Luciano Pavarotti for a concert to benefit the New York Philharmonic Pension Fund. In the second portion of the concert, Mehta conducts the orchestra in a performance of Puccini's Intermezzo and "Donna non vidi mai," both from "Manon Lescaut"; Pavarotti sings "Ch'ella mi creda libero" from Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West," and the Intermezzo and "Vesti la giubba" from "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo, conducted by Mehta; boy soprano Charles Fairweather and famed violinist Itzhak Perlman join Pavarotti in singing the introduction to Act III and "E lucevan le stelle" from Puccini's "Tosca." The concert concludes with thunderous applause and a series of encores, including Pavarotti singing "Torna a Surriento" ("Come Back to Sorrento") by Ernesto de Curtis, Puccini's "Nessun dorma," and Verdi's "La donna e mobile" (sung twice); and Perlman playing Paganini's Caprice No. 24.
