THIS IS YOUR LIFE: THE CLASSICS {ED WYNN} {JUNE 3, 1953} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of nostalgic programs hosted by Ralph Edwards, in which he introduces classic episodes of his live television program "This Is Your Life." The program honors the career of an unsuspecting guest, usually a celebrity, and features surprise testimonials from family and friends. In this episode, originally broadcast on June 3, 1953, Edwards surprises comedian Ed Wynn, "the Perfect Fool." Having arrived at the cafeteria next door to El Capitan Theater under the pretext of doing a commercial for Girl Scout cookies, Wynn is shocked to learn that he is being celebrated with a trip down memory lane. Edwards traces Wynn's career from his early days in vaudeville, when he was one of the "rah-rah boys," to his later years in theater, radio, film and television. Wynn's surprise guests include longtime friends and former costars, as well as his son, Keenan; grandchildren, Tracy and Ned; his sister-in-law, Blanche; and his wife, Dorothy. Edwards also discusses Wynn's work as an entertainer for U.S. military troops and his crusade for performers' rights, which resulted in the birth of Actor's Equity. Commercials deleted.
("This Is Your Life" aired on NBC from 1952 to 1961.)
