MYSTERY!: RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY, SERIES 4, EPISODE 6: RUMPOLE'S LAST CASE (TV)

Summary

One in this mystery anthology series. Host Vincent Price introduces this British series of legal dramas about eccentric, kind-hearted barrister Horace Rumpole, who defends seemingly hopeless cases in London's main criminal court, the Old Bailey.

In this episode, the Timson crime family is once again on trial -- this time for robbing a bank and shooting a security guard. But Rumpole is concerned with the fact that the Timsons never carry guns, and both Den and Cyril Timson claim they shot no one, raising the question of who else may have shot the bank guard. Meanwhile, Rumpole engages in gambling, with advice from Den Timson, and the barrister is convinced that he can retire from Old Bailey with his winnings. As part of his celebration, he tells everyone in the courtroom how he honestly feels about the justice system. Tension in the chambers mounts due to Rumpole's impending retirement and replacement, and as a result of the competition between Rumpole and Phyllida in the Timson trial and the marital strife between the Erskine-Browns. However, the Timson trial comes to a surprise conclusion that satisfies everyone, and Phyllida Erskine-Brown uses her feminine wiles to correct the situation when Rumpole's departure is called into question.
