Summary
One in this mystery anthology series. Host Vincent Price introduces part three of director Herbert Wise's six-part television adaptation of P.D. James's complex, cunning mystery novel. The program focuses on Chief Inspector Dalgliesh's murder investigation, conducted in the shadows of Hoggatt's Forensic Science Laboratory. When additional murders occur, Dalgliesh begins to investigate people associated with the lab, some of whom may be linked to the grisly crimes. In part three, Dalgliesh's attention has shifted away from the case of a young woman murdered near the lab, to the murder of the unpopular chief biologist, Dr. Edwin Lorrimer. Through interviews with possible suspects and witnesses, as well as some deft detective work, the chief inspector begins to piece together several clues. Dalgliesh learns about the many tangled and hostile relationships that Lorrimer had with co-workers and their relatives. Physical evidence and an eyewitness at the murder site, however, tend to confuse as much as clarify the search for the killer. After the inspector learns that Lorrimer changed his last will and testament to eliminate his cousin, Angela Foley, as a benefactor, Lorrimer questions Foley and her lover, Stella Mawson, who become prime suspects. Dalgliesh, however, refuses to jump to conclusions at this early stage of the investigation. Continues with T:26179.
