Summary
Continued from T:26463. The 39th hour of CNN's coverage of the attempted coup against Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. On "Sonya Live," Sonya Friedman is joined by Harrison Salisbury, former Moscow bureau chief of The New York Times, and Dr. Daniel Papp, an expert on the Soviet Union, who discuss the coup and answer viewer call-in questions. Journalist Gail Sheehy discusses Gorbachev and his legacy, and former CIA official George Carver discusses the intelligence community and its belief in the likelihood of a Soviet coup. During the second half of "Sonya Live," economist Jeffrey Sachs and a Soviet official talk about the coup. Anchor Sharyl Attkisson periodically interrupts the program to give an update on the Soviet situation, and Beverly Schuch updates the business news. Following a short discussion with financiers about the future of Russian investment, anchor Ralph Wenge interrupts "Sonya Live" to report on the Agence France Presse story that Gorbachev was arrested while attempting to return to Moscow from the Crimea.
