Summary
One in this comedy series about the colorful inhabitants of Cicely, a rural Alaskan town where native New Yorker Joel Fleischman establishes his first medical practice. In this episode, Maggie wants to turn inward and contemplate life on her thirtieth birthday. Inspired by Ed's description of a Native American ritual, she writes messages to the people from her past, both dead and alive, by whom she feels burdened, and sends the letters down a river. She then camps at an isolated riverbed to undergo a ritual of passage, but a fever from a bacterial infection causes her to experience a hallucinatory picnic breakfast with her dead boyfriends. Elsewhere, Marilyn takes driving lessons from Chris, who engages her in philosophical inquiries about automobiles, and Maurice writes his memoirs for publication, irritating his friends in the process. Commercials deleted.
