STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: THE BIG GOODBYE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of science fiction programs about the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 24th century. This sequel to the original "Star Trek" series is set approximately 85 years after the journeys of the first Enterprise Crew. In this episode, Capt. Picard, Dr. Crusher, Lt. Cmdr. Data, and a literature historian named Whalen encounter a malfunctioning holodeck program about San Francisco in the 1940s. Picard intends to relax before his scheduled diplomatic talks with members of the dangerous Jarada race; as he relaxes on the holodeck, he assumes the role of Detective Dixon Hill, a private investigator who is wanted by the police and gangsters. But when a long-range Jarada scan causes the holodeck to malfunction, Picard and the others become trapped in the program. Aboard the Enterprise, the crew desperately attempts to fix the holodeck, and unless Picard himself greets members of the Jarada race in their own language, they will destroy the ship. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned. Cataloging of this program was made possible by The Coca-Cola Company.
