ST. ELSEWHERE: THEIR TOWN (TV)
Summary
One in this medical drama series set in St. Eligius hospital in Boston. Filmed on location in New Hampshire, this episode follows Dr. Donald Westphall (Ed Flanders) to Peterborough, N.H., where he has moved with his autistic son, Tommy, and serves as the small town's only doctor. Throughout the episode, Westphall acts as the "stage manager" in a style reminiscent of the play "Our Town," giving a tour of the town and offering insight into the characters and his own feelings. For Westphall's birthday, his sister-in-law, Constance, has invited some of his friends and family members to visit from Boston, including his daughter, Lizzie, Carol Novino, and the Craigs, who are in the midst of a divorce. Upon returning to her hometown, Ellen Craig reminisces about her childhood and faces the reality of some of the choices she has made when she is confronted by her childhood sweetheart's sister. When called away to administer to the Jude family's sick baby, Dr. Westphall is accompanied by Dr. Mark Craig, who badgers him about his new lifestyle and tries to force him to admit he is not as happy as he seems. Meanwhile, Lizzie is unhappy about her separation from her father and feels unwanted, and Carol tries to befriend three carpenters -- Harry, Sam, and Jack Warner -- who are building an office in Donald's house, and unwittingly wreaks havoc among the brothers.
