DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, THE: PINK PILLS AND PURPLE PARENTS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy programs about the personal and professional life of Rob Petrie, the head comedy writer for television's "Alan Brady Show." In this episode, Sally considers taking Buddy's pain pills for her headache, but Rob stops her. Rob feels that no one should ever take another person's prescription. He tells Sally and Buddy about the time that Laura made that mistake. In a flashback, Millie helps Laura prepare for her first meeting with Rob's parents and leaves her with a bottle of pills to help her relax. Against her better judgment, Laura takes one when his parents arrive. Throughout the evening, as Laura becomes more nervous, she takes more pills. During dinner the massive dose of medication starts to take effect and Rob and his parents begin to notice a transformation. First Laura begins to make strange comments at the dinner table, then she forgets to put ice cream in the sundaes, and finally she puts on music, begins dancing, and passes out. The Petries think that Laura has a drinking problem, but in the end they learn the truth. Commercials deleted.
