STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: DEJA Q (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 24th century. This sequel to the original "Star Trek" series is set approximately 85 years after the journeys of the first Enterprise crew. In this episode, the omnipotent Q Continuum decides that Q must be stripped of his omnipotent powers and condemned to live out his mortal days as a human being. The powerless Q is dumped aboard the Enterprise while Capt. Picard and his crew are desperately trying to save the planet Bre'el IV from being destroyed by its moon. Accustomed to Q's tricks and skeptical of his insistence that he is now mortal, Picard imprisons Q, but agrees to release him only when he insists that perhaps he could help save Bre'el IV. Q attempts to become accustomed to living as a mortal, and as he struggles for the first time with such basic human sensations as hunger and pain, he finds an unexpected ally in Data. But when Guinan encounters her enemy Q in his vulnerable human form, she gloats over his impotence; Picard realizes that Q is now open to attack by any of his former victims, and because he is under the protection of the Enterprise, the ship could be attacked by any species seeking to take revenge on him.
