JUDY GARLAND SHOW, THE {LENA HORNE, TERRY-THOMAS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of music/variety programs starring Judy Garland. In this program, Garland is joined by singer Lena Horne and British actor/comedian Terry-Thomas. Highlights include the following: Garland and Horne sing a duet of "Day In, Day Out"; Terry-Thomas performs a comic monologue in which he discusses the inclement weather in England and a dog who did tricks in a pub, among other things; Horne sings "I Want to Be Happy," "Where Is Love?" and "He Loves Me"; while taking tea together, Garland and Terry-Thomas discuss Garland's unpleasant experiences with the British press, Terry-Thomas performs an impression of Eartha Kitt, and Garland sings "A Foggy Day (in London Town)" to Terry-Thomas; Garland and Horne each perform the hit songs associated with the other -- "Honeysuckle Rose" (Garland), "Meet Me in St. Louis" (Horne), "'Deed I Do" (Garland), "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" (Horne), "It's All Right with Me" (Garland), closing the segment with duets of "The Trolley Song" and "Love"; Garland, Horne, Terry-Thomas, and the company dancers perform "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" in formal Victorian garb; and, alone on stage with a steamer trunk, Garland tells a humorous story about losing the 1954 Academy Award to Grace Kelly while in the hospital after having given birth to her son, Joey, and she sings "The Man That Got Away"; and Garland ends the show with "Maybe I'll Come Back." Commercials deleted, except for announcements of program sponsorship by Contac cold medicine and General Mills foods. This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program currently available to the Museum.
