Summary
One in this series of live, late-night comedy/variety programs featuring topical satire. This edition is hosted by Jason Alexander and features musical guest Peter Gabriel. The opening has Russian President Boris Yeltsin and President Bill Clinton playing a friendly game of pool at a political summit, at which Clinton makes Yeltsin an offer in exchange for foreign aid. Jason Alexander's monologue gives him a chance to perform one of his favorite Broadway plays, "Peter Pan." Alexander, the veteran stage actor he is, however, feels there's an element missing from the performance and flies over to talk to executive producer Lorne Michaels. Sketches include: a commercial parody for Jiffy Express mail couriers, who specialize in taking the blame for late packages; a meeting of the "Woody Allen Fan Club" at which the members discuss upcoming social events; an installment of "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handey; two guys eating at "Hub's Carry-Out Food" who constantly ask for additional items to make their lunches tastier; Peter Gabriel's performance of the song "Steam"; a skit in which two "Food Union" employees try to relax on their break but keep getting disturbed by customers and fellow employees no matter where they go to take their break; another edition of "Deep Thoughts"; a sketch in which Mr. DiAngelo, the crime boss, takes it upon himself to rough up a man who has been stealing from him; a commercial parody for the new feature film "Ignorant Proposal"; another edition of "Deep Thoughts"; Gabriel's performance of the song "In Your Eyes"; and a skit in which a new employee of a company joins his colleagues for drinks but keeps getting confused over three of his co-workers' names.
