LORETTA YOUNG SHOW, THE: THE ROAD (TV)
Summary
One in this anthology series hosted by Loretta Young. In this production, Young portrays Alice, a bitter, unloved wife who suddenly jets off to Paris. Her friends there are shocked to learn that Alice and her husband, Gerald, have been separated for a year, following her discovery of his affair with a secretary. Alice also tells her friend of another revelation: she's dying. A Parisian doctor confirms the diagnosis of Alice's American medical experts, noting that she has less than a year to live and will experience increasing numbness, dizziness and potential loss of sight. Alice then embarks on a road trip to Spain. While speeding through the countryside, she almost hits a young boy. Deciding to spend the night at an inn, Alice proceeds to get drunk and finds herself flirting with a handsome bartender. Meeting up again the next day with the young boy, Alice gives him a ride. He tells her about Lourdes, a religious site where locals claim to experience miraculous cures. As her health rapidly begins to decline, Alice is persuaded by the boy to visit the sacred grotto. Once there, Alice's tough facade begins to crack and she experiences emotions that lead her to some startling revelations. Commercials deleted.
