STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: ENSIGN RO (TV)

Summary

One in this series of science fiction programs about the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 24th century. In this episode, the Enterprise crew becomes an unwitting pawn in a conspiracy masterminded by Starfleet Admiral Kennelly. After a terrorist attack on a Federation colony on Solarion Four, a man who claims to represent the Bajorans -- a race which has been fighting to regain its homeland after being chased off by the Cardassians -- contacts the Enterprise and claims responsibility for the attack. As a result, Admiral Kennelly assigns Captain Picard to make contact with the Bajoran leader Orta and offer him amnesty in return for an end to hostilities. Kennelly arranges for an imprisoned Bajoran, Ensign Ro, to be released in order to assist Picard and the Enterprise crew. When Ro leaves the ship without Picard's clearance and is found with Orta, she's forced to admit that she's secretly working for the Kennelly, who plans on supplying the Bajorans with weapons -- in contravention of Federation policy -- in return for a promise to end terrorist acts. Orta insists that the Bajorans were not responsible for the attack, and that someone is manipulating the Federation. To expose the conspiracy, Picard and Ro set a trap. They reveal that the Enterprise will be escorting a ship carrying Orta and his people to their camp. Cardassian ships rush to the scene and insist that the Enterprise back away. Kennelly orders Picard to comply, and the Cardassians promptly destroy the Bajoran ships. The ships are empty decoys, however, and Kennelly is shocked to discover that the Cardassians staged the attack on Solarion Four to enlist his help in eliminating the Bajorans. Picard commends Ensign Ro on a job well done and asks her to remain on board the Enterprise. Commercials deleted.
