MYSTERY!: PRIME SUSPECT II {PART 1 OF 4} (TV)
Summary
One in this mystery anthology series. Host Diana Rigg introduces part one of this four-part program, which follows Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison on a racially-charged murder investigation. In this episode, Tennison attempts to identify both victim and killer when the skeletonized remains of a 17-year-old girl are found buried in the garden of an apartment building in a West Indian community in London. Neighborhood resident Nola Cameron is convinced the corpse is her missing daughter Simone, who disappeared six years earlier, but forensic tests prove otherwise. The building's tenant at the time of the murder, David Harvey, provides an alibi and claims to know nothing about the murder. Landlords Esme and Vernon Allen portray Harvey as a man of questionable character who had fallen into drink and debauchery following his wife's death. Tennison orders further tests to provide her with the victim's ethnicity and has a clay model of the victim's head and face constructed for identification purposes. Meanwhile, the investigation is hampered by police overzealousness and Labour candidate Jonathan Phelps' campaign to free Nola Cameron's son, whom he claims was wrongfully imprisoned by the police six years earlier for stabbing a white boy.
