Summary
One in this mystery anthology series. Host Diana Rigg introduces part two of this four-part program, which follows Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison on a racially-charged murder investigation. In this episode, Tennison gets upset when Bob Oswalde, a black detective who is also her former lover, is added to the investigation without her consent. Despite Tennison's suspicions of tokenism aimed at quelling the growing anger of the West Indian community, Oswalde quickly proves his worth, helping to identify the dead girl as a teenage runaway who had come to London to perform at an ethnic music festival. Also attending the concert were Esme Allen, the landlord of the building where the girl was murdered, and her son Tony, whose strong reaction to the likeness of the dead girl piques Oswalde's interest. Also, Tennison learns that the then-building tenant, David Harvey, had sublet the basement to a young woman who was involved in prostitution. As Tennison prepares to question the sickly Harvey on his deathbed, Oswalde arrests Tony Allen for the murder, after he sees a tape of Allen on stage with the victim at the concert.
