Summary
Part one of three. One in this British drama series about Dr. Eddie "Fitz" Fitzgerald, a brilliant forensic psychologist on retainer with the Manchester Police who drinks and gambles to excess and has a troubled family life. In this episode, Fitz tries to get his wife Judith to come back after his gambling and drinking habits drive her away; when Fitz is arrested for trespassing on Judith's property, he ends up in a cell next to Sean, a stutterer who was brought in for hijacking a city bus with his girlfriend. Fitz counsels the police to put Sean in for psychiatric treatment, but they let Sean go and he and his girlfriend Tina murder loan shark Cormack soon after his release. Fitz is called to the scene and then reveals a profile of Cormack's murderers on television. When D.C. Giggs questions Tina at her flat about her connection to Cormack, Tina and Sean -- already paranoid after hearing Fitz's close-fitting profile of them on television -- decide they must kill Giggs to cover their tracks on Cormack's murder.
