HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: THE CORSICAN BROTHERS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas presented by Hallmark. This production, set in Corsica, unfolds against the backdrop of a blood feud between the da Franchi and de Guidice families. Lucien and Louis da Franchi are Siamese twins separated at birth who can feel each other's pain. A prophet predicts that Lucien will marry Annamaria de Guidice, but the squabbling families refuse to believe this will ever happen. The twins' father is suddenly killed by an avalanche supposedly caused by the de Guidice family. Louis, who despises the fighting, moves to Paris and joins a government committee to outlaw family feuding, while Lucien stays behind to avenge their father's death. When Lucien is shot, Annamaria de Guidice visits him in order to make sure that he is going to recover. The star-crossed lovers declare their devotion for each other, knowing that they cannot enjoy a peaceful life together until the fighting ceases. Meanwhile, in Paris, Louis befriends a naval officer and promises to watch over his wife, Emilie, while he is at sea. Emilie becomes the target of Duke Chateau-Renaud, who seduces the woman, so Louis steps in to "redeem her honor" and an insulted Renaud challenges him to a duel. That night, Louis dreams of his own death and sends a letter to his family stating he died of brain fever: He hopes to prevent his brother from avenging his impending death. Nonetheless, Lucien feels agonizing pain when Louis is fatally stabbed, and he finds and kills Renault. But Lucien receives a visit from the disapproving ghost of Louis and realizes the wastefulness of vengeance. Lucien replaces his brother on the committee that is designed to outlaw feuding in the hopes that he and Annamaria can be happily married, free from family feuds. After the program, performer Trevor Eve suggests other works by Alexandre Dumas recommended by the Library of Congress. Includes commercials, promos, and a "CBS Newsbreak" with Marlene Sanders.
