TOM SNYDER {FIRST ANNIVERSARY SHOW} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk shows hosted by Tom Snyder. This special edition celebrates the first anniversary of the program, and features a surprise visit by "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, taped celebrity tributes, and favorite clips from 1993. A tuxedo-clad Snyder commences the evening by walking through the Burbank studio and introducing the following members of his staff: segment producers Bernard Grinberg and Catherine Abraham; researcher/booker Chip Bell; supervising producer Michael Horowicz; cameramen Michael J. Schwartz and Ray Figelski; technical director Jessica L. Cummis; picture pilot Joel Tator; studio engineer Andrea Cummis; audio director Ron Estes; make-up artist Kelly Greer; stage manager Mark Kennedy; and cameraman Michael Armijo. The program then includes the following segments: a taped congratulatory message from television personality Chuck Barris; Jay Leno stops by with a cake and discusses the tense period when NBC was choosing between him and David Letterman as "Tonight Show" host, his support for young comics, a misunderstanding with Snyder, and being "graded" as a young comic at the Playboy Club; a taped anniversary wish from CNBC host Bob Berkowitz; a reel of clips of musical guests from 1993, including John Tesh, El Mariachi Del Sol, Vince Gill, Peter Paul & Mary, and Riders in the Sky; Snyder introduces his new Yamaha Disklavier piano -- a high-tech player piano -- which then plays music derived from original George Gershwin punch rolls; a taped tribute from New York weatherman Frank Field; clips of embarrassing technical problems early in the show's run; footage of Snyder's unpleasant interview with celebrity husband Tom Arnold; a taped tribute from CNBC co-hosts Mary Matalin and Jane Wallace; a congratulatory phone call from talk show host Leeza Gibbons; taped salutations from CNBC co-hosts Vladimir Pozner and Phil Donahue; a clip of a 1993 show with guest Adam Glickman which featured a Menorah fitted with an air pump and condoms which were then inflated to replace the traditional candles; a clip of a show in which Snyder and Dr. Alan Xenakis joke about urinary incontinence; a clip of a visit with members of the cast of "Catskills on Broadway" including Louise DuArt, Freddie Roman, Mal Z. Lawrence; and Snyder thanks his viewing audience. Includes commercials, promos, and a "Sports Business Minute" with Taryn Gottleib.
