ON OUR OWN: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The pilot in this comedy series about seven orphaned siblings raised by the eldest brother in the family's St. Louis, Missouri, home. In this episode, the Jerrico children quickly and jauntily prepare sack lunches before the school bus arrives to pick up the younger members as twenty-year-old Josh supervises. Meanwhile, Alana Michaels begins her first day at the Department of Children's Services, immediately given the Jerrico case by supervisor Gordon Ormsby. Alana's assignment is to find the Jerricos a proper guardian, following the death of the children's parents a year ago in a car accident. Alana goes to the Jerrico home and immediately meets with Josh, just before the Jerrico children loudly return from school. Alana claims that according to the regulations, the Jerricos need to find an adult relative to assume custody lest they get split up in foster homes. That night, the Jerrico children are scared about their futures and put the onus on Josh to come up with a plan. Josh tells his brothers and sisters that he will take the guise of their relative from Memphis, Aunt Jelcinda. The next day, "Aunt Jelcinda" meets with Alana, who immediately knows that it's Josh in drag, having called the sickly Jelcinda the day before. Nevertheless, Alana is impressed by the lengths the Jerricos have gone to keep their family together. Then, Gordon arrives at the Jerrico home and is immediately smitten by Jelcinda. Alana allows Josh's deception to continue. After Gordon leaves, Alana tells the Jerricos to stay on their toes and take care of each other, as she'll be checking in on them. Josh ends the eventful day by "talking" to his deceased parents before Jelcinda receives an amorous call from Gordon. Includes commercials.
