YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS {GUEST HOST: LEE BOWMAN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs. This episode, with guest host Lee Bowman, begins with a sketch in which Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner, and Imogene Coca take a look at what it must have been like to eat at a restaurant during the Stone Age. Next, the Billy Williams Quartet sings "Alexander's Ragtime Band," and roving reporter Carl Reiner interviews Dr. Sigmund Shock (Caesar) about his book, "Mind Over Matter," in which he explains the immense power of the human brain. Then Robert Merrill, dressed as a preacher, sings "Jonah and the Whale," and Earl Redding sings "Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair" by Stephen Foster as Nelle Fisher and Jerry Ross perform a dance about a young man and the memory of his late wife. Next, Caesar and Coca pantomime a bickering young couple who must maintain a happy facade while at a cocktail party; Jack Russell sings about a young woman who throws herself from a bridge while members of the ballet company perform the tragedy through dance; and Bill Hayes and Judy Johnson play a pair of young Victorian lovers as they sing "Another Kiss." In the next sketch, "The Eternal Triangle," Caesar plays a penniless schmo who comes between Coca and her wealthy boyfriend, played by Lee Bowman. In the following segment, Marguerite Piazza and Bill Hayes perform a scene from the opera "La Bohme"; Coca performs excerpts from Johann Strauss's "Die Fledermaus"; the Hamilton Trio dances a scene about a master thief and his two bumbling apprentices; Caesar does a comedic monologue about a man who is convinced that his marriage is over; and Jack Russell and the chorus sing "Lullaby of Broadway" as the ballet company dances. Includes commercials.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by Mel Brooks.
