PICKET FENCES: GUNS 'R' US (TV)
Summary
One in this series of offbeat dramas that often focuses on social issues as it chronicles the lives of Rome, Wisconsin, residents, including town Sheriff Jimmy Brock; his wife Dr. Jill Brock; their three children, Kimberly, Matthew, and Zachary; and his two deputies Kenny Lacos and Maxine Stewart. In this episode, Matthew decides to get even with a teenager, Jason, who dunked him head first into a toilet bowl. Matthew enlists Zachary to help him create a "spud gun," which he intends to use to damage Jason's car. Unfortunately, the gun is more powerful than he thought, causing Jason's car to flip over, trapping the teen. Zachary and Matthew are released after being charged with a misdemeanor offense since they had no intent to physically harm Jason. Jason's shocked parents, the Hendricks, decide to sue Matthew for damages. But Jason's younger brother, Jimmy, decides to settle the score himself and shoots Matthew in the chest with a real gun. The Brocks are horrified to learn that Matthew may never be able to walk again. Meanwhile, the deputies decide to become susceptible to the "blue flu" after Mayor Harris denies them a pay raise, Max must take over as sheriff while Matthew is hospitalized, and Kimberly becomes angry with Douglas Wambaugh when she learns that he will be representing Jimmy Hendricks.
