WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUEST: FRED ALLEN} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this program, host John Daly presides over a panel which consists of journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, entertainer Steve Allen, actress Arlene Francis, and publisher Bennett Cerf. Employing only yes-or-no questions, they try to discover the vocations of Donald Utz of Newark, Delaware, who sells milking machines, and June B. Wolfe of Houston, Texas, a professional wrestler who competes under her maiden name, June Byers. These two contestants are followed by a "mystery guest," humorist Fred Allen, who attempts to mislead the panel by disguising his voice. At the end of Allen's round, Daly mentions that his guest will join the ranks of a game-show hosts the following week with a program on another network ("Judge for Yourself" on NBC). The program concludes with Peggy J. Smith of Columbus, Ohio, who repairs motorcycles. Includes commercials and a promo.
