Summary

One in this talk/interview series hosted by William F. Buckley, Jr. Filmed in London, England, this program focuses on the ideas of author Alexander Solzhenitsyn. As the program begins, Buckley relates some basic facts about Solzhenitsyn and his views. During this interview, Solzhenitsyn comments on the following topics, among others: his exile from the Soviet Union; the way experiences in Russia are being repeated in the West; the older generation's abdication of responsibility; the freedom of the press; Russia before the revolution; his faith in the West; the way spending two years in the West affected his opinion of it; the need to make sacrifices for the sake of freedom; the ways that spending time in a concentration camp affected his outlook on life; moral considerations and politics; the task of the artist; the future of the West; the nuclear threat; the concept of detente; and his own future. After the interview, Buckley speaks with two journalists, Bernard Levin and Malcolm Muggeridge, about their views of Solzhenitsyn and the real meaning of detente.
