ALIVE TV {A.K.A. ALIVE FROM OFF CENTER}: 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ALIVE TV {HOUSE OF TRES RECKIN' SHOP; CONTENDERS} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of arts programs featuring the work of leading avant-garde artists in video, music, dance, theater, and film. This edition features highlights from "Alive TV" in honor of the tenth anniversary of this series. The first work, "Untitled," by Bill T. Jones, is a dance and spoken-word piece. Dancer Jones performs movements as an off-screen voice describes a dream and recalls a tragedy that occurred during the construction of a house. Jones continually asks the viewer to recall people, places, and events of the past. In the second piece, "Excerpts from the House of Tres and Reckin' Shop," members of the Brooklyn community dance in the streets and comment on how they will be viewed by young people of the future. The last piece, Susan Marshall's "Contenders," uses dance movements and crowd noises to create a feeling of athletes in competition and at training sessions.
(Series title varies; as above, 1991 onward; as "Alive From Off Center," 1985-1991.)
Cataloging of this program was made possible by Blake Byrne.
