FRONTLINE: THE SIEGE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/current affairs programs about a commercial television network longing to grab the headlines with a breakthrough news story. In this episode, when a father holds his children hostage at a farmhouse, Frontline knows this could be the big story it has been looking for. The executive producer, Brian Thompson, will stop at nothing to get an exclusive story on the air. The hard-working, under appreciated producer/researcher Emma Ward somehow gets the phone number of the farmhouse and schedules an on-air interview with the kidnapper, just as soon as anchor Mike Moore shows up. Meanwhile, veteran reporter Martin DiStasio is at the scene and Brooke Vandenberg interviews the kidnapper's mother. After the siege ends, the staff at Frontline celebrates because its ratings soar, and the media commend them on a job well done. Moreover, Moore has been getting publicity galore, both positive and negative. A few weeks later, another siege is in progress and the gunman specifically requests to talk to Moore. Commercials deleted.
