HOLLYWOOD PALACE, THE {GENE BARRY, BUSTER KEATON, GLORIA SWANSON, JULIET PROWSE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of lavish, vaudeville-inspired weekly variety programs. Guest host Gene Barry presides over this program and welcomes the Romano Brothers, Juliet Prowse, Jack Carter, Marco, Buster Keaton, Gloria Swanson, the Swingle Singers, and the André Tahon Puppets. Program highlights include the following: Barry sings "Just in Time"; the three Romano Brothers perform their acrobatic singing, dancing, and tumbling act; Juliet Prowse sings and dances to "I Love You and Don't You Forget It" supported by five male dancers; Jack Carter performs a stand-up comedy routine touching on his recent travels in Europe; Marco performs a balancing act with a champagne bottle and glasses on a tray; Barry sings "Day In, Day Out"; movie legends Buster Keaton and Gloria Swanson make a rare appearance together in a silent, slapstick sketch called "Her Reluctant Lover," featuring Keaton as Antony and Swanson as Cleopatra; a Parisian group called the Swingle Singers -- making their American television debut -- perform works by Bach substituting their voices for the musical instruments; André Tahon's caterpillar puppets dance a tango; on a Paris café set, Juliet Prowse sings "C'est Magnifique," Jack Carter leads the chorus in "Le Grand Boom-Boom," and all sing "The Perfect Paris Night"; "billboard girl" Raquel Welch brings Barry the card listing next week's guests; and Barry closes with "Make Someone Happy." Includes commercials, promos, and a public service announcement.
