Summary
One in this series of police dramas. As narrated by the laconic Sgt. Joe Friday, the cases are culled from the files of the Los Angeles Police Department. In this episode, Friday and Smith are approached by farmers Marvin and Otis Spengler, who fear their elderly father, Chester, is the victim of a nasty swindler. After moving to the big city to enjoy life after seventy years of farm work, Chester has fallen in love with attractive twenty-four-year-old Marilee Tomlen, and the smitten man lavishes thousands of dollars of his savings on the woman in an effort to salve the vague troubles plaguing her distant family. Despite Friday's evidence that Marilee is keeping company with handsome young ne'er-do-well Robert Blayvell, Chester refuses to consider the possibility of betrayal -- until Marilee, Blayvell, and his checkbook mysteriously disappear.
