Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, Carson welcomes actor John Larroquette, comedian Anthony Griffith, and writer Roy Blount, Jr. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: the recent heavy rainfall in Los Angeles, an oil spill near Malibu, the negligence of the Persian Gulf War allies in chipping in for their share of the war's cost, the Avon Corporation's raid of a Mary Kay Cosmetics dumpster for trade secrets, and Carson's personal idea of Hell. Next, in a special comic response to next Monday's Academy Awards telecast, Carson hosts "The Third Annual Snivelling Weasel's Choice Awards," in which a live weasel selects the winners of the various film and actor categories by choosing which bowl of weasel food (placed before each nominee's name placard) he eats from. First guest John Larroquette discusses losing one's hair with age; his strategy for renegotiating his contract on his series, "Night Court"; pawn shops; a Holiday Inn commercial in which he starred; and his early days in New Orleans. Next, comic Anthony Griffith performs a stand-up routine, touching on the following topics, among others: why he declines invitations to perform on cruise ships, the effect of drugs on hair and clothing styles of the 1970s, his impression of Jimmy Stewart in "It's a Wonderful Life," and his thoughts about boxer Mike Tyson. Finally, Roy Blount, Jr., talks about the differences between an "author" and a "writer," a gala event he attended at the New York Public Library, making the transition to writing on computer, and a bad experience with a complimentary mint in a New Orleans hotel room.
