TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {ROBERT KLEIN; WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY, JR.; GLEN MEDEIROS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include comedian Robert Klein, writer William F. Buckley, Jr., and Hawaiian singer Glen Medeiros. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's recent move to Tennessee, Oral Roberts' claim that he can raise the dead, the Iran-Contra hearings, life expectancies, UFO sightings, and the recent outbreak of "Yuppie Flu." Before the celebrity guests arrive, Carson bids farewell to a married couple, Gene and Jan Schwartz, who are retiring after many years of working on "The Tonight Show." Next, Carson's first guest, Robert Klein, performs a monologue in which he talks about the birth of a baby panda in Washington, D.C.; his aging father; and his love of old music. When he joins Carson on the couch, Klein discusses his new weekly show, mentioning some of his extraordinary guests. They are then joined by William F. Buckley, Jr., who talks about his new book, "Racing Through Paradise," which chronicles his experiences during a thirty-day voyage on a small sailboat. Buckley speaks of his love affair with the sea, suggests ways in which sailors can battle discomfort during a long journey, and discloses some personal weaknesses he discovered during his trip. Finally, Glen Medeiros sings "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You." Includes commercials and promos.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Theodore R. Stanley.
