Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include actress Dyan Cannon and legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite. Next, Carson wishes Ed McMahon a happy birthday and talks about his astrological sign. The first guest, Dyan Cannon, discusses her previous appearance on the show and her new movie, "Author! Author!" starring Al Pacino. She also talks about her favorite and least favorite movie roles and comments on her personal life. Next, Carson performs a skit about Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela and his contract negotiations with the team. The second guest, Walter Cronkite, comments on the following subjects: whether he misses anchoring the nightly news, his visit to the Amazon for his new television series, whether television news can live up to the public demand for information, the differences between reporting news and delivering commentary, the boundaries that he respects during interviews, the most fascinating person that he has ever interviewed, and the attempt to get him to run for public office.
