CHICAGO HOPE: RIGHT TO LIFE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of medical dramas about the personal and professional lives of the staff of the state-of-the-art Chicago Hope Hospital and the ethical dilemmas they face. In this episode, a pregnant woman goes into convulsions in the waiting room of Dr. Hancock's private clinic. After a quick examination, Hancock decides the baby needs to be aborted or the woman will die. The woman grants Hancock permission to perform the abortion, which he does successfully. Meanwhile, Dr. Kronk's patient, a drag queen, brings out the homophobic side of him. A strange development arises when Hancock's patient hires a lawyer to sue the doctor for performing the life-saving abortion. The lawyer, who is associated with the pro-life community, claims the fetus was alive before the abortion was performed. Also, a young boy whose parents abandoned him in the hospital has serious heart complications following a routine surgical procedure. Meanwhile, Kronk's patient is not responding to the AIDS medication and he puts pressure on Kronk to make him appear heathly before his mother arrives at the hospital to visit him. The case against Hancock draws the media's attention and he is arrested on charges of second-degree murder. Shocked at the charges, Hancock realizes his career is in jeopardy. Although the young boy recovers from emergency heart surgery, he will not be able to live much longer without a heart transplant. At the clinic, Hancock receives a bomb threat, and before he can get all the patients out safely, the bomb explodes. Kronk learns something about himself and his patient as the drag queen's family arrives at the hospital. Commercials deleted.
