CHICAGO HOPE: BACK TO THE FUTURE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of medical dramas about the personal and professional lives of the staff of the state-of-the-art Chicago Hope Hospital and the ethical dilemmas they face. In this episode, Dr. Wilkes admits a Colombian drug smuggler into the hospital since he is the victim of a hit-and-run accident. To keep the young man out of trouble, Wilkes disposes of the drug packets the patient had hidden in his digestive system, thus causing trouble with the police. Tommy Wilmette's impassioned plea in court for the rights of doctors eventually saves them from further legal repercussions. Meanwhile, Watters, unaware that Wilmette wants to discharge him, travels to Jack McNeil's secluded cabin to try and entice him out of retirement so he can head Chicago Hope's new orthopedic unit. Only when Watters calls in a favor does McNeil accept the position, after revealing the mysterious trauma that had caused him to give up medicine. Dr. Grad returns from Africa, hoping to catch up with Dr. Kronk, only to find that he has returned to Africa to search of her. While Wilmette is preparing to formally announce the closing of the hospital, Dr. Shutt makes a proposal allowing Chicago Hope a second chance to prove itself financially. And, away on leave, Dr. Austin witnesses her father's slow demise, tormented by the fact that she is unable to help him recover. Commercials deleted.
