MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO, THE: WFAN RADIO: THE
MIKE AND THE MAD DOG SHOW {BROADCAST FROM THE
MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO}, PT. 2 OF 2 (RADIO)

Summary

Continued from T:46607. This sports-talk radio program, part two of two, originating from the Museum of Television & Radio in New York, features the popular duo of Mike Francesa and Chris Russo, better known as "Mike and the Mad Dog," on WFAN-AM. The guests on this show are National Hockey League (NHL) commissioner Gary Bettman; New York Jets quarterback Glenn Foley; and the president of the New York Knicks and Madison Square Garden, Dave Checketts. Highlights of topics discussed include the following: whether New York Yankee owner George Steinbrenner can be happy in the off-season and not mess with the team's chemistry; the hosts' opinions on which players will still be on the Yankee roster when spring training begins; what the suspension -- for substance abuse -- of the Dallas Cowboys' defensive lineman Leon Lett will mean for the Cowboys in the playoffs; and a sports update with John Minko. Gary Bettman then joins them and talks about the following: whether he is happy with the way the NHL season has been going so far; how he handles complaints about inconsistent officiating; whether the timing of the start of the NHL season, which coincides with Major League Baseball playoffs, hurts the sport's attendance; why the regular season is just as important as the playoffs; how hockey has been de-centralized out of Canada and into the United States; his attempts to help teams in Canada to maintain the country's tradition; the commissioner's role when franchises ask for new arenas; the differences between teams for large and small markets, especially with payrolls; his goals for the present and the future of the sport; and the excitement of competing against other sports to win more loyal fans. Over the phone, New York Jets quarterback Glenn Foley speaks about the following: his approach for the rest of the season since taking over the starting job; his feelings about returning to his hometown for the game against the New England Patriots; how the team tries to block out negative media attention due to a pitiful season; and whether any of his teammates lack intensity when gameday arrives. While the hosts wait for Checketts to arrive, they comment on how the St. John's Red Storm basketball team is doing with its new coach. Checketts then joins them and talks about the following: the Knicks game against the Miami Heat; whether he's worried about how the Knicks are playing, considering the money the organization spent in the off-season; plans for the Arena Football team and the professional women's basketball team, both of which will play games in Madison Square Garden; the situation with boxing at the Garden since the post-fight melee following the Riddick Bowe fight; and rumors about trades that have been floating around the National Basketball Association. Includes commercials.
