HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: BETRAYAL (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic police series about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. In this episode, when a young girl is found dead on the side of a highway, Pembleton and Bayliss are called to investigate. Lieutenant Giardello wonders whether Bayliss should be associated with this case considering the history he's had with murdered girls. When Pembleton assures Giardello that Bayliss won't let his personal feelings interfere with the investigation, Giardello leaves him on the case. The medical examiner's report concludes that the girl was beaten to death and also reveals evidence of prior physical abuse. Meanwhile, Detective Kellerman is preparing to go before the grand jury regarding the corruption investigation. Bayliss has a feeling that the mother's fiancŽ is responsible for the girl's murder and that the mother knew what was happening all along. Pembleton has the same feeling but wants to go about getting the information in a different manner than Bayliss. While interrogating the mother, Bayliss loses his cool, which prompts Giardello to wonder if he made a mistake leaving Bayliss on the case. While Kellerman is waiting his turn at court, the other detectives under investigation leave the courthouse, and Kellerman knows exactly which ones testified against him. While Bayliss is questioning the fiancŽ, Pembleton talks with the mother who tells him exactly what happened. They decide to pit the mother and the fiancŽ against each other to make sure the story is true. Instead of taking the Fifth Amendment, Kellerman chooses to testify , even if the outcome means he'll never be a cop again. Despite having concluded the case, Bayliss isn't satisfied with the punishment the mother and the fiancŽ will receive. Bayliss reveals a deep, dark secret to Pembleton and then decides that they shouldn't be partners ever again. Commercials deleted.
