Summary
One in this musical variety series in which relatives of famous performers are interviewed about "the stars of their families." Husband-and-wife entertainment team Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healy host. Hayes and Healy begin by singing "If I Were a Bell," and then they introduce their first guest, Kitty Martin, who explains that her husband is part of a puppet act, the Martin Brothers. Hayes then introduces the Martin Brothers, explaining that their marionettes have appeared in a number of nightclubs. The scene shifts to two marionettes, a singer, and a piano player, who "perform" "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "Darktown Strutters' Ball." Peter Lind Hayes returns with a violin, which he says he intends to play. His wife joins him on stage with guest Mrs. Van Dyke, explaining that this guest's daughter was the first violinist in the San Francisco Symphony. Envious, Hayes breaks his violin. Mrs. Van Dyke then explains that her daughter has gone from the symphony to the theater stage; Marcia Van Dyke is now appearing in the Broadway production, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." The actress/violinist then sings and plays the violin to the tune "Gypsy Fiddler." The next performance is by Hayes and Healy, who enact a brief skit in which Mary Healy accuses her husband of neglecting her; they go on to sing "I Need You Like I Need a Hole in the Head." Their next guest is a man who says he has brought flowers for his performing offspring. Healy reveals that the proud father is Dewey Barto, comedian father of comedienne Nancy Walker. Walker then sings "Lover" and performs a comic dance with Paul Hartman. Hayes and Healy return to the stage to deliver a brief preview of the following week's program and to bid their audience goodnight. Includes commercials and a public service announcement. Commercials include Carol Stupell for Ronson lighters.
