SPY GAME: WHY SPY? {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in this action series about two spies chasing after downsized spies that have gone rogue in the "new world order." The program begins with three retired spies -- Adam Quill, Mr. Black, and Mr. White -- lamenting their current fate before they are attacked and forced to battle other spies on the golf course. During the fight, Adam jumps on an explosive to save a group of country club patrons, after which he is presumed dead. Later, at a party at Alibi bar, former spy and current Alibi owner Lorne Cash is approached by Maxine London, weapons expert at ECHO (Emergency Counter Hostilities Organization.) She informs him that his mentor Adam has died and asks if her organization can debrief him. Then, they are bombarded by other spies that try to kill them. After surviving the attack along with friend and former Russian spy Shank, Lorne and Maxine head to ECHO headquarters. There, Lorne meets with leader Micah Simms, curious why he is now needed. The three examine a cybernetic downloading "spider" that Maxine found after the fight. The gizmo contains information on an eradicator bomb prototype, formerly one of Adam's pet projects. Lorne thinks something is up, figuring that Adam is still alive and tricked everyone. Meanwhile, Adam kills the colleague that didn't successfully murder Lorne. Maxine further discusses the eradicator's properties and its inventor, Dr. Leonard Perl. Soon, Micah confirms that Adam survived the attack on the golf course and is a traitor. Lorne fears he is a target and reluctantly joins Micah's team. On the way to Dr. Perl's house, Lorne tries to learn a little more about Maxine's background. Once inside their destination, Adam gets the drop on Lorne and soon apprehends Maxine. Later, Adam shows how he made Lorne into "a human weapon," without the need to carry a gun. Then, he reveals that he has the payload of Dr. Perl's eradicator, which evaporates all living organisms in its scope. After claiming that the president is a traitor for trying to make spies obsolete, Adam binds Lorne and Maxine and leaves them in a room with a payload. They only have minutes to escape, but manage to pull it off. Afterward, the two realize that Adam is going to use an eradicator to kill the president. With the president at Lake Thunder in California for President's Day festivities, Micah closes the area around it. Maxine figures out that Adam probably hid the eradicator in a World War II bomber jet set for a flyover at the ceremony. Maxine and Lorne rush to the airfield and try to figure out a way to stop the bomber from lifting off. Maxine and Lorne get on the plane and briefly stop Adam before he gets the upper hand. Adam ultimately jumps from the plane with the eradicator and, despite not having a parachute, Lorne follows. Lorne tangles with Adam in mid-air before Maxine joins them and lifts Lorne off with her own parachute. Adam is subsequently blown up by the eradicator. Finally, Lorne and Maxine settle into their new partnership, next tackling a crazed terrorist threatening to blow up the Statue of Liberty. Includes commercials.
