MIDDAY LIVE WITH BILL BOGGS {LUCIE ARNAZ, BOB
COLACELLO, TAX REFORM} {WARHOL VINTAGE TELEVISION
#WA.00.0414} (TV)

Summary

This program was taped off the air with a camera on a tripod by Andy Warhol for his private research and entertainment. This program is part of the Warhol Foundation's donation to the Museum of the artist's complete television collection. It was taped from WNEW-TV in 1978. One in this series of talk shows hosted by Bill Boggs. In this edition, Boggs interviews Lucie Arnaz and Bob Colacello and leads a panel discussion on tax reform. Arnaz, Boggs' occasional co-host, is wearing the fedora often worn by her father Desi Arnaz on "I Love Lucy." She discusses her graying hair, what she missed by marrying so young, her favorite color, and her goals in show business. Next, Colacello, executive editor of Interview magazine, talks about how he chooses people to be interviewed and placed on the publication's cover, the magazine's demographics, interviewing techniques, his "Out" gossip column, and juggling partying and work with Andy Warhol and his set. The program's final segment focuses on Jimmy Carter's proposed tax-reform package and its influence on New York City. Bernard Jacobs, president of the Shubert Organization, notes that the proposal no longer to allow the price of Broadway show tickets to be deducted as business expenses will devastate the theater industry; restaurateur Robert Pascal makes the same point about the limit in deductions allowed for business meals; New York Convention and Visitors Bureau president William Gillett notes that the minor financial gains to the government from these changes could have devastating results to the employees of the above industries; and New York University professor of economics Melvin Krauss calls the proposed bill a cheap shot against certain industries, representative of what he terms the anti-business attitude in the Carter administration. On the other hand, Columbia University professor of political economy William Vicarey supports the theory that a line must be drawn between business expenses and money spent purely on pleasure. Includes commercials. This tape contains only a portion of the entire program. This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program currently available to the Museum.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
