VIEW, THE {TOM SELLECK} {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere of this series of daytime talk shows hosted by a multi-generational group of women, which is presided over by Barbara Walters and includes recent college graduate Debbie Matenopoulos, attorney Star Jones, comedian Joy Behar, and journalist Meredith Vieira, who acts as moderator. Behar functions as Walter's replacement on a revolving basis. After an introductory chat, in which the group members introduce themselves to the audience, the hosts discuss the day's "hot topics," including John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s controversial statements about his family, the American public's fascination with adultery scandals, and Princess Diana's current swain Dodi al-Fayed. Vieira then interviews actor Tom Selleck, who discusses the following topics, among others: the obligation of the press to act responsibly; his role as a gay tabloid reporter in the film "In and Out"; and the possibility of a feature film based on his popular television series "Magnum, P.I." Selleck joins the group to answer the "Question of the Day," which asks: "If your house were burning and everyone was safe, what is the one thing you would grab on the way out?" The group then welcomes author Vicki Iovine, who comments on the problems men and women have in conversation. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements.
