LOST IN SPACE: THE ANTI-MATTER MAN (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the Robinsons, a family of space colonists from Earth who have become hopelessly "lost in space." In this episode, an accident involving an atomic generator creates a rift between the "normal" world and the "anti-matter" world. John is sucked into this parallel realm, where he meets his "negative" self -- a physical duplicate who is cruel, calculating, and ruthless. The anti-matter world is a miserable place, and its barren, hellish landscape, continuously marred by lightning, is inhabited only by John and a bearded Don. Desperate to escape to the "normal" realm, the evil Don and John trap the real John, and the fake one replaces him and arranges for a permanent switch. The doppelganger tries to mimic John's good nature around the family, but his occasional sparks of vile nastiness arouse concern in Will and the Robot, who is wracked with guilt over his role in the atomic accident. The pair amazingly deduce the truth and venture into the anti-matter world to save the real John, with the cowardly Dr. Smith in tow. Distraught with guilt and fear, the Robot suffers great emotional distress during the rescue attempt and agonizes over its dumpy physical appearance until it meets its own opposite: a tough-talking thug and all-around low-life Robot imprisoned in an iron cage, who belts out a stirring rendition of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" to chase away its electronic blues. Commercials deleted.
