AMERICA TONIGHT {AMERICA 2 NIGHT}: MARTIN MULL {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The final installment of this series of satirical, mock talk shows set in Alta Coma, California, hosted by the smarmy Barth Gimble and his dim-witted sidekick Jerry Hubbard.

Barth bravely faces the uncertain future of "America 2Night" with only Happy Kyne to lend support, as Barth has fired Jerry and the rest of the Mirth Makers. Barth's guests are actors Fred Willard and Martin Mull, who protest Jerry's termination while acknowledging his mental deficiencies. Jerry himself turns up shortly after the show begins, having accidentally boarded the bus to the studio rather than one headed back to Fernwood, Ohio. All is forgiven as Barth, Jerry, and Happy reminisce over photo albums and await word from the network on the fate of their show. The program with a rendition of the song "Goodnight," accompanied by Happy on violin. Commercials deleted.

(Martin Mull and Fred Willard originated their roles as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard in "Fernwood Tonight," telecast in syndication in 1977.)
