FERNWOOD TONIGHT {FERNWOOD 2 NIGHT}: RATINGS WEEK (TV)
Summary
One in this series of satirical, mock talk shows set in Fernwood, Ohio, hosted by the smarmy Barth Gimble and his dim-witted sidekick Jerry Hubbard.
This installment begins awkwardly as Barth's congratulatory phone call to the winner of the American Dream Contest is stymied by news of the elderly honoree's recent death. The show recovers with a spirited performance by the Gallaghers, a mother/daughter musical act, who perform "I Want To Be Happy." Next up is Gilbert Ulysses Nelson of the Fernwood Gun Association, who discusses his Kiddie Krime Korps, which arms young children to empower them in the fight against crime. Finally, the eccentric William W.D. "Bud" Prize debates Sylvia Miller on the subject of her alleged sexual experiences with small creatures from outer space. Commercials deleted.
(Martin Mull and Fred Willard reprised their roles as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard in "America Tonight," telecast in syndication in 1978.)
