HAPPY DAYS: EMPTY NEST (TV)
Summary
One in the series of comedies about life in the 1950s. In this episode, Howard returns home to find the living room full of inflatable furniture. Marion admits she has been filling her life with new things since Richie and Joanie left home. Meanwhile, Fonz is overworked at Arnold's, struggling to stay cool. Then, Ashley arrives and Fonz tries to wine her instead of going to "My Fair Lady." Roger arrives, revealing that Fonz actually gave the musical's tickets to him. After explaining that he had to work another shift at the eatery, Fonz tells Ashley that he is struggling to handle the "puzzle" of his life. Meanwhile, Howard and Marion struggle to converse, with Marion depressed about their empty existences. Fonz arrives at the Cunninghams and reveals a new plan to sell his half of Arnold's. Soon, Potsie is organizing a protest against a change of ownership at the beloved hangout. A real estate agent brings by an interested party whose identity shocks everyone. It's Arnold, who's considering whether to buy back the restaurant. However, he finds Fonz's asking price too high. Meanwhile, Marion talks with two old friends about how to get through the "empty nest" syndrome. They encourage her to do some things she has always wanted to try. When Howard returns that night, he finds Marion has a new hairdo and his living room has yet another look. Then, outside, Howard is shocked to find a mobile home. It is Marion's dream to drive across the country like a gypsy. Howard has no interest in the new lifestyle, storming away. Quickly they apologize and try to figure out their futures without the children. Finally, Arnold talks with Fonz again, stating that he's bought out Al's half of the business. Fonz says he's delighted to remain a silent partner. Commercials deleted.
